Anyone who has built a house knows: what really wears you out is not the construction but the endless decisions. Door models, door colours, sockets and their positions, tile shades and how they match… Every day there’s a new question and they all need an answer right away. After a while you really get tired, and a process that should be enjoyable turns into stress.
The problem isn’t the number of decisions
In fact, the issue is not that there are many decisions, but that they all come at once and without a plan. Every decision made without a concept makes the next one harder. As options multiply, the mind gets tired, leading either to procrastination or to hasty decisions you later regret.
How do we structure the process?
1. First, we get to know you
What are your mornings like? How often do you have guests, and do they stay overnight? If you have children, what is their lifestyle like? Understanding your quality of life and routines forms the basis for every decision.
2. We create a concept
Based on this information, we prepare a concept tailored to you. The concept defines the colour palette, material language and overall atmosphere from the start. Every subsequent decision can then be made easily by asking “does this fit the concept?”.
3. We make decisions when the time comes
Within the concept we have defined, we make decisions together, gradually and when the time is right. Socket positions are finalised at the electrical stage, tile shades before the finishing stage, and the door model before the joinery order.
4. Curated options, not hundreds
We don’t offer you hundreds of options. We present a few pre-selected options that go well together, so you don’t get confused.
The result: a sense of confidence
This way the process stops being chaotic and moves forward in a planned routine; building a home becomes an enjoyable experience rather than a source of stress. A well-managed design process creates a sense of confidence, not decision fatigue. We explained the importance of working with the right team in our article on finding the right architect.
Frequently asked questions
I find it hard to make decisions. What should I do?
First define a concept; then work with no more than three options for each decision. Spreading decisions across stages also lightens the load.
Can I change my mind later?
At the design stage, yes, easily. Major changes after construction starts, however, increase time and cost; see common dilemmas in renovation.
