We hear “I want to renovate my home but I don’t know where to start” very often. The first step of a renovation is not looking for a builder; it is working with an expert architect who will understand you and your home. In this article, we at SYK Mimarlık explain step by step how we run a renovation project from start to finish.
1. On-site survey and measurements
First, our team visits your home and takes all the measurements. While doing so, we look not only at the walls but also at you: Where do you spend most of your time at home? What is your daily routine like? Do you often have guests, do you work from home? Getting to know you in the setting you live in is the foundation of the right project.
2. List of needs
After the meeting we draw up a list of your needs: storage, number of rooms, kitchen layout, lighting expectations… This list becomes the compass for every decision throughout the design. Clarifying your budget at this stage also makes the process easier; for this, take a look at our article on planning a renovation budget.
3. Inspiration and 3D design
We set up a communication group with you and ask you to share examples and models you like. Within this framework, we present the 3D designs we prepare to you at our office. That way you can see the final look of your home before a single wall is knocked down, and make changes on paper.
4. Detailed drawings and approval
Once you approve the 3D design, furniture details, ceiling, lighting and construction drawings are completed. Every stage again goes through your approval. A finished project means work can begin on site without surprises.
5. Planning and implementation
At this stage our civil engineer Yener Kocabaş steps in. The work schedule and team planning are prepared; any demolition is completed and work moves on to plumbing and electrics, plastering, painting, flooring and installation. If a change affects the structural system, we assess it from an engineering point of view; for details, see our article on columns and beams in renovation.
6. Choosing materials together
While work is under way, we visit showrooms together with you to choose tiles, flooring, worktops, fittings and so on. Being by your side at every stage removes the question “was it supposed to look like this?”.
7. Handover and moving in
When everything is finished, with the furniture in place and the final touches done, you start living in a home designed for you from start to finish.
